Air Force Accessions Requirements
You are eligible for appointment as a judge advocate on Active Duty if you meet all of the following criteria:
Requirements for Direct Access Program (DAP)
- Be a United States citizen
- Be commissioned prior to your 40th birthday
- Attorneys must be graduates of an ABA-approved law school and have been admitted to practice before any state's highest court or a federal court
- Law students must be attending an ABA-accredited law school, have completed two-thirds of their credit requirements, and be in good standing
Requirements for Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC)
- Be attending an ABA-approved law school which is near an AFROTC detachment
- Be in good standing
- Meet AFROTC standards
- Be available to attend summer field training
- One Year College Program (OYCP) must be 2L; Graduate Law Program (GLP) must be a 1L; Ed Delay In must be senior in college
Requirements for Funded Legal Education Program (FLEP)
- Be a United States citizen
- Be a commissioned officer in the US Air Force
- Have served on active duty (enlisted or commissioned service) for a period of not less than two years nor more than six years of the first day of classes
- Be in the grade of O-3 or below as of the first day of classes
Requirements for Excess Leave Program (ELP)
- Be a United States citizen
- Be a commissioned officer in the US Air Force
- Have served on active duty (enlisted or commissioned service) for a period of not less than two years nor more than 10 years as of the first day of classes
- Be in the grade of O-3 or below as of the first day of classes
You are eligible for appointment as a judge advocate in the Air Reserve Component if you meet all of the following criteria:
- You are a United States citizen
- You graduated from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association
- You are a member in good standing of the bar of a state or territory of the United States, or the District of Columbia
- You do not exceed the applicable age limit (not older than 40, unless you have previously served as a commissioned officer in the U.S. military)
- You meet medical qualification and fitness criteria for appointment as an officer in the Air Force Reserve or Air National Guard
